PURPOSE OF THE GOVERNMENT

FORM A MORE PERFECT UNION

• To link themselves and the American people more closely together.
• It was a belief that if there is a Union then there is strength.

ESTABLISH JUSTICE

• The law, in both its content and its administration, must be reasonable, fair, and impartial.
• We want "equal justice for all."

INSURE FOR DOMESTIC TRANQUILITY

• To keep order (peace) and the well-being of the society.
• The government is necessary because not all men are angels.

PROVIDE FOR THE COMMON DEFENSE

• Defend the nation against foreign enemies.
• To provide the security the nation maintains, an army, a navy, Air Force, and coast guard.

PROMOTE THE GENERAL WELFARE

• The list of tasks that the government preform for ones benefit.
• These government functions include operating steel mills, airlines, and coal mines.

SECURE THE BLESSINGS OF LIBERTY

• Freedom for the individual recognizes that liberty can not be absolute.
• Set out many guarantees of rights and liberties for the individual in this country.
