PRESENTATION OUTLINE

PUSHING UP PEOPLE

CHAPTER 16: "DO IT FIRST"

MANAGEMENT MISTAKES

  • Some managers see themselves as DELEGATORS instead of "DO-ERS."
  • Everybody can talk a good game, but talk is cheap
  • Asking your people to do something that you have never done before
  • Asking of your people to test new ideas rather than yourself

ON EVERY WINNING TEAM IT'S EASY TO RECOGNIZE A TEAM CAPTAIN:

  • The one who comes in early & stays late
  • One who keeps on working & believing even in the worst crisis
  • One who does everything first before asking his teammates
  • He simply "do it - then talk."
  • He leads by example

PUSH-UP PRINCIPLE

People will follow whatever example they have - good/bad

If you aren't setting a good example, probably you're setting a bad one

  • The easiest way to set a good example is;
  • By working harder than anybody else on your team
  • Through hard work, the battle is half won
  • You must have the mindset of No Office Hours (e.g 9-5)
  • Constant above & beyond efforts & call of duty

PUSH-UP PRINCIPLE

ULTIMATELY YOU MUST WIN

AS A LEADER, YOU HAVE GOT TO DO IT RIGHT & DO IT FIRST

  • Winning ultimately legitimizes all the talking
  • The Plagues, Company Trips, Leaders Bulletin, Promotions
  • Minor Successes & Milestones (Futures Jersey, Power Builder Watch, & Ring)

PUSH-UP PRINCIPLE

  • People need to see "local success" to keep them motivated

YOUR PEOPLE NEED TO SEE YOUR WINNING SPIRIT

  • A winning spirit simply means that you INTEND to win
  • And you intend for your teammates to win
  • "The harder you work, the harder it is to surrender." Vince Lombardi
  • "Winning is not everything it's the only thing."
  • "A champion hates to lose even more than she loves to win."
