HABITAT

  • Pygmy rattlesnakes live in woodlands and freshwater.
  • These places are close to where we live, in Alabama.

THE DEADLY BITE

  • This bite was from a pygmy rattlesnake.
  • Due to their small size, bites aren't life threats.
  • Their venom is mild.
  • If bitten, go to the hospital immediately for treatment.
  • Is very painful.

BABY PYGMYS

  • A pygmy rattler has live young.
  • Pygmy rattlesnakes can have 2 to 12 at a time.

HEAD

  • It's pupils are like a cats, just vertical lines.
  • It has an oval shaped head.
  • It has a forked tongue.
  • It has small slits just in front of its eyes for a nose.

BUT THATS NOT ALL!

  • Pygmy snakes rarely use their rattle before striking.
  • The reason they are so small is their diet doesn't have much protein.
  • The amphibians and reptiles they eat make a pygmy not-so-big.
