Some of their spots can be more like rounded squares.
4.
THE DIET
The pygmy rattler loves mice, lizards, and frogs.
It even eats other small snakes!
As you can see, has a large mouth.
Can bite people, mistaking them for prey.
5.
KILLING THE PREY
They coil up and wait for their food to come.
Swallow their food whole.
Because of their camouflage, prey can't spot them.
Prey can't see them especially in leaves and mud.

HABITAT
Pygmy rattlesnakes live in woodlands and freshwater.
These places are close to where we live, in Alabama.
8.
THE DEADLY BITE
This bite was from a pygmy rattlesnake.
Due to their small size, bites aren't life threats.
Their venom is mild.
If bitten, go to the hospital immediately for treatment.
Is very painful.
9.
BABY PYGMYS
A pygmy rattler has live young.
Pygmy rattlesnakes can have 2 to 12 at a time.
10.
HEAD
It's pupils are like a cats, just vertical lines.
It has an oval shaped head.
It has a forked tongue.
It has small slits just in front of its eyes for a nose.
11.
BUT THATS NOT ALL!
Pygmy snakes rarely use their rattle before striking.
The reason they are so small is their diet doesn't have much protein.
The amphibians and reptiles they eat make a pygmy not-so-big.
