EARLY LIFE

  • Born at Kensington Palace on May 24th, 1819
  • Became Queen at age 18, married Prince Albert in 1840
  • Despite hating pregnancy/childbirth, she had nine children
  • All of her descendents married royalty, gave her the nickname-
  • "Grandmother of Europe"

INFLUENCE ON GREAT BRITAIN

  • Associated with Britain's great age of industrial expansion.
  • Increased economic progress
  • Made Britain an empire
  • The term "the sun never sets on the B.E" was made during her reign
  • Britain's "Victorian Age" was named after her

INFLUENCE ON THE WORLD

  • Ruled over Great Britain and Ireland
  • Reign supported peace and reconciliation
  • One of the most popular rulers in Europe
  • Also became the Empress of India
  • During her reign, the empire doubled in size

ISSUES QUEEN VICTORIA FACED

  • She lost her husband and went into a deep depression
  • As a child, she wasn't allowed to be alone at any time
  • She felt as though having children made her less capable to rule

PEOPLE DID NOT APPROVE OF...

  • As a young queen she gossiped all the time
  • When her husband died, she neglected several duties due to depression
  • She wasn't a very loving mother and didn't put on a show for the public
