quote 1,page6,chapter 1

"he just trying to make us pity him. what an imagination he has!"
I like this quote because pity is such an awful thing in different ways. This man has self pity in himself and they think hes gone crazy.Trying to get the jews to listen to him and they wont.

quote 2,chapter 1,page 9

"The yellow star? oh well, what of it? you dont die of it....."
I love this quote because I'm not sure of what it means yet but the way it sounds keeps me wondering.Almost like saying even though we aren't dead yet we can reach the stars if we dream big and believe, even living in our unfortunate life with the bad things happening.

quote 3, chapter 1 ,page 16

"I shall stay here with your mother and child"
I feel like this quote is expressing how dangerous times are, considering usually when someone says ill stay with the child or stay back with a woman or child in the first place, to me it makes it seems like they are saying that so they can try and keep them safe.

quote 4, chapter 2, page 20

"There's a fire over there!"
The fact that this women has the ability to know that they are practically to hell by these death camps amazes me. the saddest thing is no one wanted to believe her and they all thought she was crazy. The things the SS army was doing to the jewish people was awful. Thinking about all the men and women dying each and everyday, and they didn't even know what was happening they had no idea. I'm sure thousands of babies where killed that's to me is unimaginable. As mothers are holding there children as they starved to death or where sent to gas chambers. Couldn't even imagine any of this.

quote 5, chapter 3, page 24

"poor devils, you're going to the crematory"
The quote has me wondering on how this random other prisoner is telling Elie that he is basically going to his death. the fact that right before it happened the angel of death so they say , looked at them and said go left before the plunge into the firey hole. I personally believe that the lord was watching over Elie and guiding him through his tough and petrifying experience in the holocaust. The things that where being done to these poor people and children is just awful.

quote 6,chapter 3,page 28

"You're in a concentration camp. At Auschwitz"
I have different feelings about this quote, I feel like it can have many different meanings on how it was said and how people felt by it. its like its a wake up call to the jews, saying almost like welcome to hell. Even the SS officer could have meant it in a threatening type way. I wonder how the jews took this emotionally and mentally as this officer said this to them, was Auschwitz like the worst and most awful place of all, was that place really like there hell?

quote 7, chapter 3, page 30

"Work is liberty!"
Im confused on what this quote is trying to mean. How is work liberty and my question is what are they working for? the jewish people are as equal as any other religion or race or whatever and they shouldn't be put to work because of what one man said and thought to believe. If anything they should have liberty and freedom to get out of these awful consentration camps. i dont understand the complete purpose on why they have the jewish people in these awful camps like for what???

quote 8,chapter 4,page 35

"I'll give you an extra ration of bread and margarine"
This quote is honestly sad, i say this because if you have to beg and plead for a pair of shoes so you will give up what food you have left? to me it was an awful time obviously if you have to give up your own food to help you survive for a pair of shoes that where probably not even in the greatest state of being

quote 9, chapter 4, page 40

"He'll take it out on us"
This quote makes me think more and more about how awful these concentration camps are. by just speaking or getting out of line they will "take it out" on you? for what reason because they didn't like something you had done or had to say. I guess the whole freedom of speech thing hadn't kicked in during this time. but it was okay for them to through slander and swear at the jews. that was okay though right? I think not.

quote 10, chapter 4, page 48

"Where is God now"
This is one of the strongest quotes in this book in my opinion. I say that because these poor people are standing here starved and beaten watching this child be hung. This child is being killed and the cant do anything about it. these people have gone and are going through so much and they are begging for the lords help through all of this struggle. Its sad really, when i read things like this with people in need it makes me really think about all the things I have compared to them.

quote 11, chapter 5, page 50

"All creation bears witness to the greatness of God"
I feel like this quote is talking about how all people of the lord are a individual creation of God.Through the greatness of him all things are possible and with his love we will all get by in life. He has a plan for all of us and always will if you believe

quote 12, chapter 5, page 55

"whats the matter"
Whats the matter?...... what isnt the matter .. these people are practically in hell. going through all of this awful things happening and the terrible things that have gone on for to long. getting beat and spit on and sworn at over one man, Hitler as he says don't worry ill kill off all the jews soon enough. to me I'd rather die and pray my last prayer to the lord than to go through a living hell at a concentration camp. Everything is the matter..

quote 13, chapter 6, page 65

"Come on,son,come on....."
This is a sad quote because they are struggling so much and they are trying to push each other to go on in this wintry weather and they are struggling and all that are dying. All their friends are being killed and shot from running out of line from the freezing thresh hold of hell that their lives have become. His father telling him to keep moving find the will and strength to pull trough. They have made it this far and need to keep pushing through and live what little life they have left.

quote 14,chapter 7, page 72

"Throw out all the dead! All corpses outside!"
I find it awful how these people are just saying to throw out all dead bodies and that doesn't even phase them at all. It must take some kind of person to kill a living person, you must be mentally ill. ill never understand some people in this world its just terrible I don't understand how someone could do this.

quote 15,chapter 8, page 76

"They'll never wake again! Never! Don't you understand?"
This quote to me is sad and i say this because think about you screaming and begging your own father to get up and that if he lays down he will die. I could not imagine looking at my father dying right in front of me.I love my father so much and i would be screaming at him and using all my strength to help him make it.

quote 16, chapter 9, page

"From the depth of the mirrors, a corpse starred at me."
I could not imagine looking through a mirror and having a dead human body looking at me with no life. Honestly that would more than likely scare and scar me for the rest of my life, forever. That is hard for a grown man to take in and just thinking about how Elie is 15 years old all I have to say is wow
