Prejudicial treatment based on one's RACE

How would you FEEL
if everyday you were judged or mistreated because of the color of your
SKIN?

I think Racism is an atrocious! Everyone should have the right to equal treatment and opportunities.

Brown Vs Bored OF Education

  • Oliver Brown's son (a black male) was denied access to a white school
  • Brown argued that racial segregation violated the Equal Protection Clause 
  • Brown said that the black and white schools were not equal to each other
  • FEDERAL court said schools were "substantially" equal enough 
  • SUPREME court ruled that the schools violated the 14th amendment

FROM THIS CASE I LEARNED:
1) Black girls in segregated schools had low self-esteem
2) separating children based on race creates dangerous inferiority complexes that may adversely affect black children's ability to learn and..
3)Even if separate facilities were equal between the black and white schools, racial segregation in schools is "inherently unequal" and is thus always unconstitutional

Loving Vs. Virgina

  • The Lovings were arrested for interracial marriage in 1958
  • They were jailed for a year
  • Supreme court ruled unanimously that their arrest was unconstitutional
  • This case  

Why should people have equal rights

  • Everyone has opportunity to jobs
  • People can marry whoever they want
  • People can go to school where they want
  • People can socialize with whoever 
  • Everyone can get along :)

Counter Argument: Not ALL Racism is wrong. Because, SOME people from a certain race do bad, the whole race is discriminated against

Just because a few people do something, doesn't mean all similar people do the same thing.. That is being STEREOTYPICAL and doesn't call for Racial Discrimination

DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE Says: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness"

MARTIN LUTHER KING said: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."

Don't Discriminate based on race...
