WHAT IS A RADIAL PULSE?

A RADIAL PULSE IS SIMPLY THE PULSE OF THIS ARTERY

PROCEDURE

  • Equipment- timer, fingers, patience
  • Bend your elbow with your arm at your side. Palm of hand should be up
  • Using 2 fingers, gently feel for the radial artery inside your wrist.
  • You'll feel the radial pulse beating when you find it
  • Do not use your thumb to take pulse because the thumb has a pulse of its own

PROCEDURE

  • Count your radial pulse for a full minute.
  • Notice if your pulse has a strong weak beat
  • Write down your pulse rate, date, time, and which wrist was used
  • Also write anything you notice about your pulse, such as weak, strong, or missing beats
  • Info from drugs.com

I'VE DONE ALL THAT. NOW WHAT?

CONGRATS! YOURE OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED TO CHECK A RADIAL PULSE!
