DEFINITION

  • Process by which energy, in the form of electromagnetic radiation is emitted by a heated surface in all directions.

HOW IS IT USED

  • Destroy food borne bacteria and parasites and to extend shelf life of food.

EXAMPLES

  • Sun heating Earth.
  • Placing your hand over or near a fire.
  • Heating a can with a Bunsen burner. Flame produces radiation which heats up the tin.
