ALL THAT GLITTERS

"Fifty feet away a figure had emerged from the shadow of my neighbor's mansion and was standing with his hands in his pockets regarding the silver pepper of the stars"( Fitzgerald 20).

In Great Gatsby, silver represents the glimmer and shine of richness and jewelry. The quote might be comparing the glimmer of the stars to the color and shine of fine silver.

LIVING THE DREAM

NOT SO PURE

"High in a white palace, the kings daughter, the golden girl" (Fitzgerald 110).

"Our white girlhood was passed together there. Our beautiful white" (Fitzgerald 19).

Honor, elegance, beauty, and a set of purity resemble white. Daisy and Jordan wear often to offset their impurity. The first quote associates white with the elegance of royalty and the second quote associates it with the innocence and purity of childhood.

HOPE IN THE HORIZON

" I glanced seaward- and distinguished nothing but a single green light" (Fitzgerald 21).

Green represents hope for Gatsby and Daisy, as the green light at the end of Daisy's dock represents how close yet far Daisy is from Gatsby. When Gatsby looks out at the dock, he feels like they have a chance.

Blue represents being depressed and moody. Blue is being sad. The quote shows that the birds are dull against the dull leaves, setting a sad, depressing mood.
