We are top neutral grade and alkaline grade sodium silicate manufacturers and suppliers of India

Silica Gel

  • Silica gel is an amorphous form of silicon dioxide
  • A micro porous structure of interlocking cavities gives a very high surface area
  • The beauty of silica gel is the physical adsorption of water vapour into its internal pores
  • There is no chemical reaction, no by products or side effects
  • It is non-toxic and non-flammable
Advantages of silica gel as a desiccant

Silica gel has many other properties that recommend it as a desiccant.
- It will adsorb up to one third of its own weight in water vapour. This adsorption efficiency is approximately 35% greater that typical desiccant clays, making silica gel the preferred choice where weight or efficiency are important factors.
- It has an almost indefinite shelf life if stored in airtight conditions.
- It can be regenerated and reused if required. Gently heating silica gel will drive off the adsorbed moisture and leave it ready for reuse.
- It is a very inert material, it will not normally attack or corrode other materials and with the exception of strong alkalis and hydrofluoric acid is itself resistant to attack.
- It is non-toxic and non-flammable.

Silica Gel Sachets

  • Silica gel sachets or bags, are simply flexible 'containers ' of silica gel
  • This means that water molecules can pass through the material
  • Silica Gel Sachets made in a heat-sealed non woven paper Non-Indicating And Self-Indicating
  • Silica Gel Sachets made in a stitched non-woven fabric or cotton. Non-Indicating and Indicating
  • A silica gel sachet is always more effective in an enclosed environment
A silica gel sachet is always more effective in an enclosed environment. A physical barrier will discourage water vapour from continually entering such an environment, leaving the finite volume enclosed to be protected by the silica gel.

A general rule of thumb in a 'hermetically sealed' environment, is that 5 grams of silica gel are required per cubic foot of enclosed volume (or 170 grams per cubic meter).
It is often prudent to err on the side of caution and use the nearest standard size sachet over the amount of silica gel that is theoretically required. For large volumes, using a few well spaced smaller sachets will reduce humidity levels faster than if using a single large sachet.

Often, environments cannot be considered 'hermetically sealed', there will be a number of factors which will increase the amount of silica gel that is needed. Please read Using Silica Gel.

Bulk Packs

  • Whilst most frequently used in sachets
  • To this end we offer a number of standard size packs
  • Fine silica gels (0.2 - 0.5 mm or 0.5 - 1.0 mm) are suitable for drying flowers.
  • Dynamic adsorption processes often require a large silica gel (2 - 5 mm or 3 - 6 mm)
  • Packs and drums are sold in singles or multiples
Whilst most frequently used in sachets, silica gel has a number of applications in its loose form. These include : use in transformer and breather units, desiccators and for flower drying. To this end we offer a number of standard size packs, tins and drums.
500 gram and 1 kg in sealed foil bags or plastic containers.
3 kg in poly tins.
12.5 kg in plastic pails.
25 kg in metal drums.
Larger drums/kegs also often available

Cargo Dry

  • Cargo-Dry adds a greater level of protection in containers
  • As goods move through inter-modal transport systems
  • Cargo-Dry absorbs approximately upto 200% of its weight of moisture per bag
  • Cargo-Dry is also available in a continuous strip
  • this new product reduces time and labor during cargo loading
Cargo-Dry is a specially designed desiccant aimed at protecting cargo during shipping by absorbing moisture vapor from the air. In doing so, Cargo-Dry reduces dew point temperature (the temperature at which condensation begins to form, causing "container rain"), keeping cargo dry and safe

uses of silica gel

  • Silica gel can often be useful in domestic applications
  • Condensation of water vapour from air will not occur
  • it is used as a desiccant to control local humidity to avoid spoilage
  • The weight and type of any packaging material inside the barrier.
  • The greatest risk of condensation is in high humidity environments
The aim of using silica gel sachets is to minimize the risk of irreversible damage to items in transit or store caused by condensing water vapour. By adsorbing water molecules, a silica gel sachet will reduce the Relative Humidity inside a package to levels at which condensation will not occur .

Three main moisture sources need to be considered

(1) That from the air contained in the package.

(2) That from the packing added inside of the package (e.g. for cushioning purposes).

(3) That which diffuses through the outer packaging during storage or transit.

These factors are considered in British Standard 1133: Section 19: 1968 as

(a) The area of the moisture barrier : A (in square meters).

(b) The type of moisture barrier : R is the moisture vapour transmission rate of a barrier (in grams per square meter per 24 hours, measured at 90% relative humidity and 38°C).

(c) The volume of the air inside the barrier :
