Sheep

The landscape of Vermont was transformed by events that happend on the other side of the Atlantic

Weathersfield, Vermont
In 1811 Jarvis imported thousands of Merino sheep. By 1830 Weathersfield was one of the richest towns in New England.

If you see a stone wall it was likely built after 1812
Strict laws for these walls. Each had to be 4.5 ft high. Often times they were topped with branches to keep them at the correct height. Each town had an inspector of walls who would make sure that the all sheep walls were well maintained.
