AFTER THE WAR

The Civil War has ended leaving us right there
What to do?
To go where?

The states wanted to be one
That gave us the new amendments
Slavery has ended, voting rights to every one not just some.

The government grew in power
Started funding railroads, and taxing us all
Providing money for colleges to make them better

But African Americans weren't excited
Even though the north won
And they were freed

Through discrimination and negative attitudes
They were threatened by the south
And were not happy or consoled by the victory

They had no work no money or no food
And had to sharecrop with cheating landowners
All of this lowered their mood
