ECZEMA

  • Chronic skin inflammation characterized by:
  • Erythema
  • Papules
  • Vesicles
  • Pustules

ERYTHEMA

  • Redness of the skin caused by swelling of the capillaries
  • Ex. Mild Sunburn or nervous "blushing"

ESCHAR

  • Damaged tissue following a sever burn
  • Ex. Bedsores or scabs

IMPETIGO

  • Bacterial skin infection characterized by isolated pustules that become crusted and rupture
  • Ex. Large blisters
  • Poison ivy, insect bites, cuts or scrapes can all be infected to result in impetigo

PEDICULOSIS

  • Infestation with lice, transmitted by personal contact
  • Can be spread by brushes, combs or head gear.
  • Ex. Crabs, insects that feed on human blood
  • Pedicul: lice
  • -osis: abnormal condition

DERMATOMYCOSIS

  • Infection of the skin caused by fungus
  • Dermat/o: skin
  • Myc: fungus
  • Osis: abnormal condition
  • Ex. Ringworm
