RED WOLF

CHARACTERIZATION

  • Rusty reddish colored fur
  • Adult red wolves can weigh 45-80 pounds, stands about 26 inches at the shoulder and about 4 feet long on average

RANGE

  • Mostly common in Southeastern U.S before endangerment.

DIET

  • Mainly consists of small mammals, such as
  • Raccoon, rabbit, and nutria
  • With the exception of white tail deer, berries, and occasionally insects.

OTHER INDORMATION

  • Lifespan: 6-7 years in the wild and up to 15 years in captivity.
  • Mating in Late winter, with a gestation period of 60-63 days for a litter of 2-8 pups.
  • Nocturnal animals, with communication including scent marking, vocalizations , facial expressions and body posture.

INTERESTING FACTS

  • Hunt alone or in small packs
  • Packs consisting of adult male and female breeding pair and offspring.
  • Tend to for pair bonds for life.
