Reddit videReddit Boss: Don't Install TikTok, It's an Evil Spyware Viruso downloader

Published on Jul 02, 2021

CEO of Reddit, a US social media app, Steve Huffman took to TikTok . He even advised young people not to install this short video application on their cell phones and called it a nasty virus spyware.

This statement was made by Steve Huffman at a seminar entitled 'Social 2030' on Wednesday (26/2/2020) in the US. According to Steve Huffman, there is nothing important that users can learn from TikTok.

"Maybe I will regret this, but I can't even reach the same level of thinking as them," Steve Huffman said as quoted by Business Insider, Friday (28/2/2020). "Because I see this application is fundamentally a parasite." "The fingerprint technology they use is just a scare, and I don't have an app like this installed on my phone." "I actively tell people, 'Don't install that spyware on your phone'." TikTok is an app owned by Bytedance. This application is touted as a threat to platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and even Reddit because of the very fast growth of its users.

Last year, the US launched an investigation into TikTok over issues handling user data. Even some US government agencies have banned staff from using this application on the grounds that the data can be read by the Chinese government. TikTok denies this, saying US user data is stored in the US.

A student from California, USA, once filed a class action lawsuit against TikTok alleging this Chinese app had opened the app without permission and collected his data.

As of this writing, TikTok has not responded to Business Insider's request for comment on the Reddit boss's response.
