Writing a reflective journal entry.

PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Reflective Journal Entry

Journal Entry

  • The clinical reflective journal allows the ongoing evaluation of the course outcomes and the student's progress. A critical step in writing the reflective journal is to identify and review the course goals and objectives. This step allows the students to tie the accomplished learning or practicum activities to the relevant goal(s).
While the student may undertake diverse practicum activities, he or she should focus on the activities with the greatest impact on the course goals.

Journal Entry

  • The typical reflective journal is usually 2-3 pages long. The student should write a paragraph describing how she met each of the course goals, reflect on the relevant practicum activities, and discuss how the activities will impact her future practice.
An outstanding journal should discuss the relevant practice guidelines and position statements. Check this clinical reflective journal entry for guidance on writing the prefect journal entry.
