HISTORY

  • The knight Templar started after the first crusade which was around 1119.
  • There was a French nobleman by the name of Hugues de Payens.
  • He gathered eight of his "knighted" relatives and started the order.
  • They started this order with the intentions to protect pilgrims on their journey to the holy places. Which is the area between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan River.
  • A Templar Knight is a truly fearless knight who is secure on every side and his soul is protected by the armor of faith.

HISTORY CONTINU....

  • Not much was really heard of the the Knights Templar for about to first 9 year, but in around the year of 1129 whenever they officially got sanctioned by the church, they began to spread a lot in Europe.
  • They had fundraising campaigns that would ask for land, money, or even noble sons to join them.
  • They received a lot of criticism because people did not think religious people could have swords. That's when a patronage by the name of Bernard Clairvaux wrote an essay defended the idea of military religious order.

SYMBOL

  • Knights Templar Cross This was made as a religious order of warrior monks, and it is not a surprise that the Cross is one of the famous symbols of the Knights Templar. The cross, which is mostly red, symbolized the connection to church and their holy mission. Since the Knights were founded to protect the holy lands, the Cross was a symbol that they turned to for strength.

SYMBOL

  • Two Knights on a Single Horse The image comes from the idea that the Templars were sworn to poverty and could only afford a single horse for each 2 men. Although the Knights quickly gained wealth. The actual rules of the order forbid 2 knights from sharing a single horse and permit up to 3 horses per Knight. The symbol continued to be used even though its used different from its origin.
