CHRISTIANITY

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

  • It began when Jesus Christ died and was resurrected over 2000 years ago.
  • Jesus healed the sick, told stories, preached sermons saying what God wanted them to do.
  • Several days after Jesus was crucified his followers found his tomb empty.
  • Which led them to believe God raised him from the dead and bring him to heaven.
  • It began where Israel is today.

BELIEFS

  • Christians believe that Jesus is the son of God.
  • And by believing in him and in his teachings they can have eternal life.
  • They believe that he died for our sins and that at the end of time he will return.
  • They also believe in the Trinity which is the three parts of God.
  • Which is: God the Father, God the Son (Jesus) and God the Holy Spirit.

FOUNDERS

  • It wasn't clear that Jesus wanted to create a new religion, but he ended up creating one.
  • Jesus was executed in his early 30's and resurrected several weeks later.
  • Jesus' 12 disciples are the other leaders.
  • They went around the whole world spreading the teachings and words of Jesus

CELEBRATIONS

  • Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus (Christmas)
  • They do so by giving gifts to each other and gathering with family for a feast.
  • They also celebrate Easter which is when he was believed to have resurrected.
  • They have a church service which is followed by an Easter dinner.

WORSHIPPING

  • Christians worship in churches and their homes.
  • Services at church include hymns, prayers, readings, and sermons.
  • The primary service is the Holy Eucharist, also known as Communion or Mass.
  • It's customary to go to church on Sundays

ADDITIONAL FACTS

  • Christianity grew out of Judaism.
  • Mary and the God of Abraham had a son named Jesus.
  • Who was raised as a carpenter by his parents Mary and Joseph.
  • Until he turned 30 when he became the voice of God.
