DAOISM(TAOISM)

  • Founded in the late 4th century. B.C.E by Laozi
  • Daoism was founded in China, Asia
  • Tao Te Ching is a philosophical and political text written by Laozi
  • It also serves as their sacred text. There are no sects in Taoism but
  • two distinctive, "Religious Taoism" & "Philosophical Taoism"

DAOISM(TAOISM)

  • Tao Te Ching is a philosophical and political text written by Laozi
  • The Tao Te Ching focused on Tao as a "way or path". The Tao Te Ching
  • also refers to Tao as something that existed before Heaven and
  • Earth. In Taoist beliefs there are three basic spheres of life:
  • Earth, Humanity, and Heaven.

DAOIAM(TAOSIM)

  • The Lantern Festival is a new year celebration that is held on the first
  • full moon of the year.
  • Taoist temples honor Deities by hosting festivals each lunar month

BUDDHISM

  • Buddhism was founded 520 B.C.E in India, Asia.
  • The Buddha, after all, was called the "Enlightened One." After he became enlightened, he taught that the way
  • to eliminate suffering begins with understanding the true nature of the world
  • He rejected speculation about such matters as God, the nature of the universe, and the afterlife,
  • rging his followers to focus instead on the Four Noble Truths by which they can free themselves from sufferin.

  • In Buddhism, the purpose of life is to end suffering. The Buddha taught that humans
  • suffer because we continually strive after things that do not give lasting happiness.
  • Sacred Texts: Pali Canon (Tripitaka), numerous Mahayana sutras
  • The most important holidays are Buddhist New Year, Festival of Floating Bowls, Observance Day,
  • Elephant Festival, and The Festival of the Tooth.

CHRISTIANITY

  • Christianity was founded by Jesus, after his death, in Jerusalem.
  • Christianity is a religion that follows the teachings of Jesus (1 AD - 31 AD)
  • as described in the Christian bible . Christians believe that Jesus is the messiah described
  • in early Hebrew texts sent to die on earth so that his followers could receive salvation in
  • heaven. The sacred text is The Bible. Communion, sacrament.

  • A man named Jesus was sacrificed for all our sins and once he died Christianity was formed from his disciples
  • Some different types of Christians are Lutheran, Baptist, Catholic,& Jehovah's Witnesses
  • Some Christian holidays are Christmas, Easter, And Lent.
