The different areas of religion.

THE MAJOR RELIGIONS

The major religions in the South Asia are Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, Buddhism, and Christianity.

HINDUISM

HINDU GOD GANESH IDOL
The most practiced religion in South Asia is Hinduism. 64% of South Asia's population worship Hinduism. Hindus have many different gods from which they choose to worship. There are also many holy scriptures and prophets. There is not a single path to salvation for Hindus. Hindus believe that their souls might be reborn several times before gaining enlightenment, when that happens their soul is merged with the cosmic forces and is eliminated.

ISLAM

SIGN OF ISLAM RELIGION
Islam is the second most practiced religion in South Asia, with 29% of the population practicing it. Islam believe in only one god, Allah. People who practice the Islamic faith are Muslims. Muslims have a sacred text, the Koran, which was revealed to God's final prophet, Mohammed. Muslims believe that people have only one chance, and only one life,to achieve salvation.

SIKHISM

Sikhism takes up 2% of South Asia's religion.Sikhism came from Hinduism as a reform movement in the 16th century. It says that people can escape rebirth by meditating on God's name. Sikhs believe in the concept of God and say that the best way to salvation is living a good family life based on the principles of work, worship, and charity.

BUDDHISM

BUDDHIST STATUE
Buddhism is 2% of South Asia's religion. Buddhism comes from a reformed movement in Hinduism in the 5th century BCE. Siddhartha Gautama created it, who believed that suffering was inherent in all life. To escape suffering, one must eliminate desire by following a path of spiritual and physical purification.

CHRISTIANITY

JESUS GODS SON
Christianity is another 2% of South Asia's religion. It was created about 2,000 years ago in Palestine among Jews, who believed that Jesus Christ was the son of God, the creator of all things. Christianity is practiced by Orthodox, Roman Catholic, and Protestant religious sects.
