SHINTOISM

  • kami—sacred or divine beings, is one of the foundations of Shinto
  • Shinto followers are supposed to live in harmony and peaceful coexistence with both nature and other humans
  • They are polytheistic, meaning they believe in more than one God
  • They have no known founder

BUDDHISM

  • the faith really centers on correct understanding of human nature and ultimate reality.
  • the way to eliminate suffering begins with understanding the true nature of the world
  • They do not believe that this world is created and ruled by a God.
  • Siddartha Gautama founded Buddhism

TAOISM

  • Taoism focuses on the individual, spiritual life
  • Knowing that all opposites are relative and interdependent, and that the best way to live is in harmony
  • The focus of most religious Taoism is attaining immortality or eternal life
  • Lao-Tzu was the founder of Taoism

CONFUSIONISM

  • They believed that the afterlife was beyond human comprehension
  • Humans should live and behave in such a way as to promote ideal social relations, rather than to act based on the expectations of rewards or punishments after death
  • a meaningful life is one in which one develops one's innate moral potential to the fullest while fulfilling all of one's social obligations
  • Kong Qiu or Confucius founded confusionism

SHINTOISM VS. BUDDHISM DIFFERENCES

  • 1. Shinto is a religion that emphasis the natural cycles and being happy and fulfilled in this life and in harmony with nature and society (Differences)

SHINTOISM VS. BUDDHISM SIMILARITIES

  • Shintoism and Buddhism both stress meditation, nature, and the worship of ancestors
  • Buddhism and Shinto had a yin yang relationship from the start, so they are considered about the same
