In the New Testament, the resurrected Jesus was taken up to heaven
This occurred 40 days after he was risen from the dead
The biblical narrative explains that Jesus will come back in same way as he left

Also known as the Feast of Ascension
In Luke 24:50-53, the bible states that Jesus blessed his desciples
Afterwards he ascended to heaven
Some traditions include; blessing of fruit and beans and procession of torches
Some symbols include; ascending Christ with descending Devil and Elijah's fiery chariot

DIWALI
Diwali, also known as Deepavali, is celebrated by Hindu's, Sikh's and Jains
Diwali is celebrated across 5 days, symbolising the triumph of good over evil
People set off fireworks to celebrate the use of fire and light to defeat the evil
From personal experience, new clothes and new food are bought
After 8 pm, the firework filled ritual begins.

DIWALI
People pray to the Godess of Wealth and Knowledge, Saraswati
They also pray to the deity's who fought in the war between good and evil
Many Vedic chants and prayers are said to a candle, with the feast afterwards
Symbols include; candles, fireworks, open flames and gold
Religious Colour: Gold, Red and Orange

INTERESTING FACTS
On the first day, people will begin their auspicious 'spring clean'. Almost the entire working day is dedicated to that
On the second day decorations are set up in and around the house
On the third day, families begin to pray and feasts and fireworks occur
On the fourth day which is the start of the Hindu New Year, people exchange gifts
And on the final day of Diwali, brothers and sisters are celebrated

There aren't many similarities between Ascension Day and Diwali
However there are many differences;
Religious colours are different
Ascension Day is about one person, Diwali celebrates all of the deity's who took part in the war

My chosen festival for Christianity was Ascension Day.
I chose this because I didn't know what it was and I wanted to learn more about it.
My chosen festival for other religion was Diwali.
I chose this because growing up, Diwali was always a great time, so I wanted to learn more about it and about Hinduism.
