There was around 15,000 people at the match that day.
Atrocity equals Reprisal

Guns They used in the shooting were semi auto pistols and revolvers as well as a few rifles and shotguns

R.I.C the royal Irish constabulary Rioga na hÉireann simply called the Irish constabulary 1836-1867 was the police force in Ireland from 1822 until 1922 when the country was part of the United Kingdom

Sport vs politics
The GAA wanted to stay as far away from politics as possible as they were a sporting community but the British thought they had undercover ira agents in the crowds and they stormed the park with tanks and guns despite the orders telling them no to shoot, they sent trigger happy soldiers

The British then saw how much we would risk just for our country’s freedom. They eventually gave in and offered a treaty but the British would take 6 counties and let the Irish take the 26

There was a huge debate over if they should go to war for all 32
or get independence immediately and have 26, It then turned from Civil War to debate eventually the side for instant freedom won. Which now gives us Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland

Now the Irish have their own independence. We now have our rights as any other country. We are now free. Some still hold a grudge against the British but we never forget who gave their lives so we can have what we have 100 years later. If it wasn’t for them we would still be under control from the British , for that they live with us forever.
