Hitler's motives: To get back Germany's best war land, also to try his own luck at getting away with things that go against the Treaty of Versailles.

European leaders' response: Chamberlain was more convinced that Hitler was bad, and worked more on getting the military to be stronger.

German consequences: None. Hitler got what he wanted, and there was no fighting back. The Nazi party grew and the German military got stronger because Hitler remilitarized the Rhineland.
