Democracy in the renaissance
Democracy comes from the Greek words "demos" and "kratos"
The term Renaissance comes from the Italian word Rinascimento, "Re" meaning again and "nascere" meaning be born.
It was a cultural movement that lasted from the 14th to the 17th century.
First started in Italy in the late Middle Ages and later it extends to the rest of Europe.
As a cultural movement, it was a period of many revolutions in many intellectual pursuits, also in social and political upheaval.
The Renaissance influenced:
- Literature
- Philosophy
- Art
- Politics
- Science
Renaissance brought more philosophy, logic, reasoning and science to everyone.
Renaissance philosophers incited the people to fight and defend their beliefs and thoughts.
These new ideas could be widely communicated by the recent development of printing, making written works were available to everyone.
In summary, the Renaissance was a movement in order to break with the old values of the Middle Ages.
Renaissance stands as a period of great men who took the Greco-Roman cultural tradition, which had been hidden by dogmatism and intellectual supremacy of the Church during the Middle Ages.
