• After the sacking of Rome, things fell apart
• No government or authority
• Can't keep the roads going, or produce coins for trade
• Merchants carrying goods weren't robbed
• Roads could not be replaced

• Life became hard because of all of this
• People became into violence
• Struggle from starvation
• Group gangs going all over the place
• People were isolated in there communities

• Communities were controlled by fear
• And a belief that your going to die in 3 seconds

THE CRUSADES

• Reconnected Europe w/ ancient trade routs
• And the Silk Road
• Because of this, they were able to trade awesome goods
• Muslims were able to do there innovations because of the trade
• Trade new inventions ex. Gunpowder and paper
