PROCESS OF GEOTHERMAL ENERGY

  • From underground
  • High temperatures
  • Fluid and heat transportation
  • Electric motor

ENVIRONMENTAL COST

  • Little environmental cost.
  • Small carbon dioxide emissions.
  • Little pollution.

ECONOMICAL COST

  • Higher cost than that of natural gas.
  • High labour cost.
  • Medium resource cost.

SOCIAL COST

  • Small area.
  • Little noise.
  • Quite a large amount of smoke.

OIL PROCESS

  • Little microscopic animals absorb energy.
  • Animals die and decompose into oil material.
  • 3 different ways to make energy out of oil.

ECONOMICAL COST

  • Cost of oil differs around the world.
  • Average cost for one barrel is $35.
  • It costs a lot of money to create a refinery.

ENVIRONMENTAL COST

  • Oil spills can happen frequently.
  • Oil spills can effect a large amount of area.
  • Kills wildlife.
  • High carbon emissions.

SOCIAL COSTS

  • Loud and lots of noise.
  • Takes up a lot of space that could otherwise be used for a different purpose.

SIMILARITIES/DIFFERENCES

  • Both oil and geothermal energy give of green house gases.
  • They produce a similar amount of energy.
  • One is sustainable, unlike the other.
  • They are different in size.
  • They have different effects on the environment around them.
  • They have different origins.
