OSKAR SHINDLER

• born 28 april 1908 died 1974
• saved the lives of 1200 jews during the holocaust
• he had jewish workers in his factory and treated them well
• he was a member of the nazi party
• he was arrested twice because he was treating jews well and he talked his way out both times

UNDERGROUND ROAD

• Slovakia had its own version of the underground railroad with jews
• Stefan Urbanek worked with his daughter Katarina
• many allied planes where shot down by Germans so it would be literally raining men
• he would go out at night and help jews and gypsies who were hiding

CHRISTIANS

• many convents/orphanages hid jews and kept them safe
• many christian families kept jews and passed them as children
• they gave them different IDs
• if they looked too 'jewish' they where hidden
