Nose

  • Structure- externally visible
  • Function- filter, moisten, and"heat" the air

Pharynx

  • Structure- 13 cm. long, "throat", continuous with nose
  • Function- passageway for food and air

Larynx

  • Structure- voice box
  • Function- routes food and air into proper channels

Trachea

  • Structure- rigid, reinforced with C-shaped rings of cartilage
  • Function- windpipe, allows food and air to pass through

Bronchi

  • Structure- formed by the division of ghe trachea
  • Function- direct routes for air sacs

Lungs

  • Structure- fairly large organs, occupynentire thoracic cavity except most central area
  • Function- breathing
