PRESENTATION OUTLINE

RESPIRATORY

SYSTEM. BY BRITTANY SELMAN

Untitled Slide

FUNCTION

  • Organs work together to exhale stale air
  • Bringing fresh air into lungs by exchanging oxygen for carbon dioxide
  • By the air sacs of the lungs & the blood stream

ORGANS

  • Nasal cavity
  • Pharynx & larynx
  • Trachea
  • Bronchial tubes
  • Lungs

THE FUNCTION IS TO PERFORM THE MECHANICAL, AND UNCONSCIOUS MECHANISM FOR RESPIRATION.

THERE ARE THREE TYPES OF THE RESPIRATION PROCESS

PROCESS OF RESPIRATION

  • Ventilation-flow of air between the air sacs of lungs & blood stream
  • External respiration-exchange of O2 & CO2 that happens in lungs
  • Internal respiration-process of O2 & CO2 exchange @ cellular level when O2 leaves bloodstream & enters tissues

3 DISORDERS

  • Pneumonia
  • Severe acute respiratory syndrome
  • Bronchitis

PNEUMONIA

INFLAMMATORY CONDITION OF THE LUNG THAT CAN BE CAUSED BY BACTERIA VIRUSES, FUNGI, & ASPIRATED SUBSTANCES. rESULTS IN FILLING ALVEOLI AND AIR SPACES WITH FLUID

SARS

ACUTE VIRAL RESPIRATORY INFECTION, BEGINS LIKE FLU & PROGRESSES TO DYSPNEA

BRONCHITIS

  • Treatment corticosteroids & decongestant
  • Inflammation of bronchial tubes

3 THINGS LEARNED

  • Many disorders but a lot are curable
  • Process of respiration needs to be continuous; interruption can result in brain damage
  • The Adam's apple is actually the thyroid cartilage

REASON FOR THIS SYSTEM

  • I found this to be the most fascinating yet easiest working system
  • My family has also had a lot of illness involving the respiratory system
  • I wanted to become more generalized with the functions
