THE SYSTEM IN CHARGE OF BREATHING AND SOUND

Breathing - air goes through the Trachea, to the Lungs. As the lungs compress, the air is filtered into oxygen and carbon dioxide.

TRACHEA

  • A.K.A. The Windpipe
  • Allows air to the lungs

LARYNX

  • A.K.A. The Voice Box
  • Manipulates Volume and Pitch
  • Houses vocal cords

VOCAL CORDS

  • Located in the Larynx
  • Essential for phonation

EPIGLOTTIS

  • Part of the Larynx
  • Causes the gag reflex

DIAPHRAGM

  • Prevents acid reflux
  • Creates the suction for air to get to the lungs

LUNGS

  • You have 2 of them
  • Exchanges carbon dioxide and oxygen

  • Gagging keeps foreign objects out.
  • You can't die by holding your breath
  • Hiccups are caused by a spasm in your diaphragm
