Review for Science Final

Acceleration

  • A=Vf-Vi/t
  • A=10mph-50mph/2hours
  • A=-40 mph/2 hours= -20 mph^2/1 hour
  • A car starts from rest and accelerates uniformly over a time of 5.21 seconds for a distance of 110 m. Determine the acceleration of the car.

Speed

  • S=d/t
  • It was once recorded that a Jaguar left skid marks that were 290 m in length. Assuming that the Jaguar skidded to a stop with a constant acceleration of -3.90 m/s2, what is the speed of the Jaguar before it began to skid?

Velocity

  • Average Velocity=Total Distance traveled/Total time taken
  • For example, if you say that a car is moving at 60 miles an hour, that's it's speed. But if you say that the car is moving north at 60 miles an hour then you've given it's velocity.

Difference between Speed and Velocity

  • Speed is how quickly an object is travelling. Note: It is also a scalar quantity as does not talk about the direction of travel Velocity is distance travelled in a particular direction per unit time. Speed doesn’t have a direction, unlike velocity which is defined as “a measure of the speed in a given direction.” Quite simply, speed is how fast an object is travelling AND: Velocity is speed in a given direction.

Energy Transformations

  • Energy transformation or energy conversion is the process of changing one form of energy to another. In physics, the term energy describes the capacity to produce certain changes within a system, without regard to limitations in transformation imposed.
