ABOUT RHENIUM

  • One of the highest densities on the periodic table.
  • Discovered by a group of scientists in 1925 led by W. Noddack.
  • Flammable only when in powder form.
  • Does not react in water.
  • Conductor of electricity.

THREE COMMON USAGES

  • Rhenium wire is used in flash lamps for photography.
  • Rhenium alloy is used in jet engines along with platinum.
  • Rhenium thermometers are used for measuring up to 2200°C.

HOW TO GET RHENIUM

  • Rhenium does not occur freely in nature or as a compound in mineral ores.
  • Obtained from molybdenum found in copper ores.
