LEADER/FOUNDER
Roger Williams is the founder of the Rhode Island Colony.
He wanted to reform the catholic church.
Ended up seeking religious separation completely.

REASONS FOUNDED
The Rhode Island Colony was founded for religious freedom and separation of power.
The land was bought from the Indians and used as a religious sanctuary.
Rhode Island is known for its fierce independance

PEOPLE/SETTLERS
The Jewish were the first to settle.
They brought with them the skill kf masonry.
Soon after came Roman Catholics , Quakers, English , Irish, Italian, French Canadians, and African Americans.

CLIMATE/GEOGRAPHY
The climate was very cold.
It had sort summers and long winters.
The cold weather helped by sustaining less diseases.

ECONOMY
In towns along the coast, colonists made their money fishing, whaling, and shipbuilding.
Farming was difficult for crops like wheat because of the cold climate.
They made most of their profit selling wale blubber.

RELIGION
There were no specific religion practiced in Rhode Island
Most of the settlers though came due to persecution in Massachusetts.
Roger Williams maintained religious freedom throughout the colony's history

POLITICS
Rhode Island was the first Colony to claim total separation from the King of England.
Roger williams pursued separation of power very hard, and succeeded.
Over all, everyone was happy and productive.

INTERESTING FACTS
Preferring the Articles of Federation, Rhode Island Refused to help write the Constitution.
Rhode Island is the only state that still celebrates the end of World War II on Victory Day.
Benedict Arnold, first governor, was the great grandfather to the Revolutioary War traitor.
