R- REST
Rest is a key component of repairing the body
Without it, continual strain is put on the affected area
Some injuries will take longer to heal without it
There is also risk of abnormal repair without it
Rest period should be until hurt area can be used without pain

I -ICE
Ice is excellent at reducing the pain and helping swelling go down
You should apply ice for 20 minutes each hour to affected area
It is recommended to wrap ice in towel to prevent frostbite to skin

C - COMPRESSION
Compression aims to reduce edematous swelling
Compression stockings are a viable option to manage swelling
An elastic bandage is required
Non-elastic bandages can cause inadequate blood flow

E - ELEVATION
Elevation aims to reduce swelling
Increases venous return of blood to the systemic circulation
Will result in less edema which reduces pain
