CHILDHOOD

  • When Wagner was first born six months after birth his father died to typhus
  • After his dads death his mother Johanna and Geyer probably married-although no documents of this has been found in the “Leipzig church”
  • Wagner’s first lessons in harmony were taken during 1828-1831 with Christian Gottlieb Muller which he was about 15 years old
  • For the longest time he thought Geyer was his real father

MUSIC DRAMA

  • Wagner himself never used the term music drama, which was later used by his successors and by critics and scholars.
  • Richard Wagner's major works included The Flying Dutchman
  • Which was made in 1843
  • 1850–51; “Opera and Drama”), that was originally referred to as simple“drama.”

RICHAR WAGNER’S CONCERT HALL

  • Built by Richard Wagner and dedicated solely to the performance of his stage works
  • The capacity of the Festspielhaus is 1,925 and has a volume of 10,000 cubic metres
  • It was built in the 19th century
  • The foundation laid 22 May 1872, Wagner's 59th birthday. Was first opened for the premiere of the complete four-opera Der Ring cycle
  • Official name is Richard-Wagner-Festspielhaus.

  • One of the most famous pieces from the Wagner canon has to be his Flight of the Valkyries
  • Wagner showed little aptitude or enthusiasm for music as a child, and so was the only one of his siblings to not receive piano lessons

  • Richard Wagner came into the world on May 22nd 1813, in the Jewish quarter of Leipzig
  • When he was just 13, though, he wrote a play entitled 'Leubald'
  • Richard Wagner was one of the world's most influential — and controversial — composers. He is famous for both his epic operas, including the four-part, 18-hour Ring Cycle, as well as for his anti-semitic writings, which, posthumously, made him a favorite

  • In late 1820, Wagner was enrolled at pastor Wentzel’s, school. Near Dresden where he received some piano instructions from his Latin teacher

RICHARD WAGNER DEATH

  • Love -- Tragedy". The last words Wagner ever wrote on a score
  • When and how did Wagner die? In 1883 a further heart attack proves fatal for Wagner and he died on the February 13th . His body was taken by gondola to the train station and back to Bayreuth where he was buried in a private ceremony in the grounds of his home
