• It is a fungal infection that can form from having a infected rash or from animals such as cats and cows.

SYMPTOMS OF RINGWORMS

• Ring worms will start off as a scaly patch or bump which tends to become very itchy and uncomfortable. After awhile this will begin to look like a ring that is raised, bumpy with scaly borders.
• If ring worms affect your hair, you may have bald patches.
• If ring worms affect your nails they can become brittle, they may crumble and become discoloured.

• For every 5 people 1 person is affected.
• For example if there was a class of 25 people 5 people would be infected by this specific disease.

• There isn't a specific country that is highly affected by this disease but it's distrusted around the world.

THE SEVERITY OF RINGWORMS

• Ring worms can't technically kill you but if it's left untreated for quite some time it can become infected by another disease which may build up towards death.

HOW RING WORMS IS TRANSMITTED IN HUMANS

• Ring worms are transmitted by direct skin to skin contact with someone that has ring worms. Another way to get this disease is by animals whether you don't know or aren't informed, If you're petting an animal with this disease you may receive it. Also if a person that already has ring worms has touched an object you have touched you can be affected by this.
• Humans can also get it from the soil but that is very rare.

WHEN RINGWORMS FIRST APPEARED IN HUMANS

• Ring worms can be traced back to at least the 1800s. This is because back then they didn't know much about the disease or how to treat it.
• They assumed that ring worms were actually caused by a worm which is where it got its name. But now we know that it's actually a fungal infection.

• Out of all the lines of defence mostly inflammation is involved in fighting ring worms.

MEDICAL TREATMENT

• Allylamines come in creams, pills and gels whilst Azoles are medications which are Diflucan and Sporonox Sone which are available without a prescription. Griseofulvin comes in pill form and needs a prescription. Tinactin is allowed without a prescription and comes in the form lotion, cream, gel and spray.
