Ringworm

Causes

  • Common among children
  • Cause by a fungus, not a real worm
  • Occurs when tinea grows and multiplies on the skin

Can infect:

  • Beard
  • Body
  • Feet
  • Scalp
  • Groin area

Ways to Catch Ringworm

  • Touching someone with the infection
  • Coming in contact with contaminated surfaces
  • From pets, most commonly the cat

Treatment

  • At home with creams
  • Keep skin clean and dry
  • Apply anti fungal drying powders or lotion
  • Don't wear clothing that will irritate the area
  • Wash your sheets and night clothes everyday

Symptoms

  • Itchy, red, raised, scaly patches
  • May blister or ooze
  • Sharply defined edges
  • Red patches are often redder around outside
  • May look like a ring
