Roanoke: The Lost Colony

FACTS ABOUT THE LOST COLONY

• A man named John White started a colony with the help of the Indians
• The colonists ran out of food and supplies for the winter.
• When he gathered all the supplies he could not return because Britain was at war with Spain.

Disappearance

• So after the war ended he returned to Roanoke.
• He discovered that everyone was gone.
• And all the houses, gardens and farms were destroyed.
• All that he could find was the word, CRO, carved on a tree meaning croatoan.
