Early Life

  • traveled Europe to learn about farming methods

  • He had an apprenticeship under his father
  • He learned farming methods while traveling

Selective Breeding

  • separated males from females
  • mated livestock with certain traits he found desirable

He improved grazing to support his system of breeding techniques.
he used irrigation, flooding, and fertilization to improve pasturelands.

by selectively breeding animals, he could control production value with higher quality.

For example, one breed of sheep gave quality fleece, while others were good for meat.

LATER LIFE

  • taught his practice to many farmers.
  • formed the dishley society (promoted livestock breeding)
