The History of Rock Climbing

  • (Who) W.P. Haskett Smith who is known as "The Father Of Rock Climbing"
  • (Where) The Sport of rock climbing started in the 1880s in Great Britain
  • (How) In 1886, Smith Climbed the Napes Neddle free solo style (without rope) & he was the 1st to complete it.
  • The First indoor rock climbing/ climbing wall was created in the UK in 1964 by Don Robinson

Materials for Rock Climbing

  • (Kernmantel) which is the most common rope used while rock climbing.
  • A pair of rubber soled shoes to be comfortable while climbing.
  • Most Comfortable Clothes, so you can climb at full potential and have no restrictions.
  • A good protective helmet.
  • A Chalk bag, to prevent your hands from sweating & causing you to fall or have bad grip.

Alex Honnold, a 27 year old from California is said to be the best rock climber ever. Alex climbed over 2,000 miles north up the Yosemite Triple crown in 18hr and 50 minutes
