Types of Rock

• Igneous: begins a magma, then crystallizes or freezes
• Bowen's Reaction series
• Basalt, Dacite, Andesite, other volcanic rocks
• Lots of minerals

Metamorphic Rock

• Other rock is subjected to heat and pressure to form new rock.
• Examples and their uses

Sedimentary Rock

• made up of pieces of other rocks.
• clasts = pieces of other rock
• clasts formed by weathering and erosion of other rocks
