!How Long Did Some Of The Roads Last!
Some of the roman roads were built so well that they still exist to this day almost 2000 years after they were built.

Rome made a ton of money from there trade in Europe some of this trade was transported by sea but more and more Rome was beginning to use roads for trade they also needs roads to move troops around easily.

When the Romans arrived in England there were no roads to use so instead they had to use tracks. It wasn't unusual for the tracks to be in poor condition because they were on high exposed ground.

!Why Were The Romans So Famed For There Roads!
The Romans were famed for having such great straight roads although they did build around natural obstacles instead of going right through them.

!How Did The Romans Build There Roads!
Romans built roads by using a tool called a groma because they didn't have a compass or maps. The groma was made of two pieces of wood nailed together that formed a square cross with right angles and lead weights attached to the edges so that they could measure if the road was flat. That way they could build a road there. After the surveyor was convinced that the area was straight enough they would stick boards into the road to show where the builders would build the road.

The bulk of the actual building was done by the Roman soldiers. By having them do it they could rely on the gained expertise because the soldiers would do there best they could for Rome-by building excellent roads.
