WHAT KIND OF SPORTS DID THE ROMANS PLAY?

GLADIATORS

  • Gladiators fought until death or surrender.
  • You fight with a different weapon each round.
  • This event usally takes place in the coliseum.

CHARIOT RACING

  • The race is started by dropping a white cloth.
  • There are 4 horses pulling a chariot driven by a charioteer.
  • The first chariot around the track 7 times wins.
  • 7 laps totaled 2 1/2 miles.

WEIGHT LIFTING

  • The Romans usually lifted halters.
  • Halters were masses of stone and metal.
  • They often practiced by jumping and leaping carrying a halter.
  • There are 3 different rounds: balance, strength, and longest leap.

WRESTLING

  • This sport was divided into two parts.
  • Last one standing upright.
  • Also the Struggle Between two romans choking each-other while Lying on the ground.
  • Each one struggles until on acknowledged his defeat.
