ArchES

  • the arches helped hold enormous weight
  • arches also made it easier to build massive structures
  • arches were often used at major construction projects
  • the stone in the middle is the keystone

  • the keystone is the last stone to be put in
  • each side of the arch put a huge amount of weight on the keystone

homes

  • wealthy Romans built large two stories homes
  • in wealthy roman homes there was no windows for saftey reasons
  • all roman houses faced inward
  • shiny marble colums were at every door way
  • all front doors open to a small room called a vestibulre
  • the houses had a cool and rich look to them
  • walls and floors are made of marble with carved designs engraved into them

Homes

  • at some houses there is an open courtyard called a peristyle
  • most rooms in roman houses are richly furnisghed
  • in every room there are lots of valuble and nice things
  • there was no water supply in any of the houses
  • most Romans did not live in such luxury wealthy homes,the poor lived in small rooms
  • the villa was surrounded by rolling green pastures and wooden hills
  • most houses were near the sea for cool air

  • one of the rulers are Julius Caesar
  • Julius Caesar lived between [100-44B.C]
  • Julius was in the milllitary
  • Julius had many challlenges through out his life time

  • the 12 tables were the first law of the romans
  • the 12 tables were established to protect the citizens

12 tAbles

  • when a man is summoned to court he must go.if the defended refuses in front of witnesses the plaintiff has the right to taker him away by force. [fair]
  • a witness must appear in court if he doesn't someone will come to his house every third day and shout at him to come to the trial. [fair]
  • when someone owes money to another he has thirty days in which to pay it back. [fair]
  • a father has supreme power over his son. but if a father tries to sell his son three times, the son has the right to be free from his father's authority. [fair]
  • A female must remain with her guardians [father or husband] even after she has reached full legal age.[unfair]
  • if fruit falls from a tree onto another person's property that person has the right to gather it and eat it.[fair]

  • no one in the city can have a group meeting at night. [unfair]
  • marriages between ordinary people and wealthy people are not allowed.[unfair]
  • for health reason no one is allowed to bury or burn a dead body within city limits.[fair]
  • if a judge is found guilty of taking a bribe he can be put to death.[fair]
  • is a slave commits a theft or damage to property on behalf of his master the slave is the one held responsible for the damages.[fair]
