Romeo and Juliet

In William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, it is evident that love is the theme of the play. It is clearly expressed that not everything a family teaches their child is right for that individual. This has been proven throughout acts one, two, and four.

"My only love sprung from my only hate. Too early seen unknown, and known too late. Prodigious birth of love it is to me. That I must love a loathed enemy." (1.5.145-148)

This quote is relative to my thematic statement because Juliet has discovered that her newly found lover is her family's greatest enemy - a Montague. Due to Capulet and Montague's rules and everlasting feud, Juliet feels confused because she does not know if she should move forward with her love towards Romeo, or let it go.

"Accursed, unhappy, wretched, hateful day. Most miserable hour that e'er time saw. In lasting labour of his pilgrimage. But one, poor one, one poor and loving child, but one thing to rejoice and solace in, and cruel Death hath catched it from my sight." (4.5.48-53)

Lady Capulet has realized that the feud between the two families has caused her last daughter to commit suicide. Juliet and Romeo's death had led the families to realize that Capulet's marrying Montague's was not a true issue. The youth's deaths put an end to the feud. The Montague's and Capulet's had realized that what they were teaching their children all these years was not right for them.

"Conceit, more rich in matter than in words, brags of his substance, not of ornament. They are but beggars that can count their worth; But my true love is grown to such excess I cannot sum up sum of half my wealth." (2.6.31-35)

Juliet reveals her true love for Romeo during their private wedding ceremony, and Juliet has shown the audience that regardless of the Capulet-Montague feud and what the children's parents say, nothing will be able to come between Juliet's love towards Romeo.
