WHAT IS IT?

  • Symptoms Are a cough, runny nose, mild sore throat, ear ache, and a fever.
  • Diagnosis: doctors diagnose RSV by looking at medical history as well as doing a physical exam.
  • Doctors usually identify it in nasal secretions with a cotton swab or by suction through a bulb syringe.

HOW COMMON IS IT?

  • Mostly found in infants and young children.
  • Elderly and adults with chronic heart or lung disease
  • You can not be immune to it.

HOW IS IT SPREAD?

  • The virus is spread by an infected person coughing or sneezing into the air.
  • Droplets of the virus comes in contact with their nose, mouth, or eyes.
  • Direct or indirect contact with nasal or oral secretions of the infected person.
  • It is infectious.
  • It is not influenced by environmental factors.

WHAT IS GOING WRONG?

  • Bronchiolitis - inflammtion of small airways in the lungs

CAN IT BE TREATED?

  • There is no specific medication for the virus.
  • Can have mucus suctioned from the airways.
  • Have breathing tube inserted for medical ventilation.
