ON JUNE 17, 1903.

RUTH MARRIED KENNETH WAKEFIELD

ON JUNE 26, 1926.

THEY BOUGHT

THE TOLL HOUSE INN.
Ruth got married to Kenneth Wakefield on June 26, 1926. They met while Ruth was teaching at Brockton High School, and so was Kenneth. Ruth taught Home Economics before they got married. After they got married she worked as a dietitian for a short time. Ruth and Kenneth had two kids; a boy and a girl. Their names were Mary Jane and Don. In 1709 Ruth and Kenneth decided they wanted to start a business. They bought an old toll house to turn into a restaurant. A toll house used to be a place where people would pay to use roads. You could also rest, eat, and feed your horse at a toll house. They would call their restaurant The Toll House Inn.

IN 1930

THE TOLL HOUSE INN OPENED

ONE DAY RUTH RAN OUT

OF BAKING CHOCOLATE FOR COOKIES.

SHE DECIDED TO

USE A CUT UP CHOCOLATE BAR.

THE COOKIES TURNED

OUT LOOKING LIKE THIS.

NESTLÉ MADE

CHOCOLATE CHIPS FOR THE NEW COOKIES.

THE NEW

COOKIES BECAME POPULAR FAST.

RUTH RETIRED

IN 1966.

RUTH DIED

ON JANUARY 10, 1967
