GALVEZ/YADON 7

THE CELL AS A CITY

CYTOSKELETON

PROVIDES SHAPE AND STRUCTURE
We chose freeways to represent the cytoskeleton because freeways usually shape cities from trade routes.

NUCLEUS

STORES GENETIC INFORMATION
We chose a library to represent the nucleus because library's store books, which have information. The nucleus store DNA, which is also information.

ENDOPLASMIC RETICULE

PRODUCES PROTEINS AND LIPIDS
We chose a farm to represent endoplasmic reticule because farms produce food which is used to eat. Endoplasmic reticule produces proteins which we need to survive.

RIBOSOMES

LINKS AMINO ACIDS TO MAKE PROTEINS
We chose power lines to represent amino acids because power lines connect to houses which provide energy. Amino acids link together to make proteins which creat energy.

GOLGI APPARATUS

PROCESSES, SORTS, AND DELIVER PROTEINS
We chose a post office to represent Golgi apparatus because post offices deliver, sort, and process mail to every part of the country, just like golgi apparatus does to the body.

VESICLES

DIVIDES SOME MATERIALS IN CYTOPLASM AND TRANSPORTS THINGS PLACE TO PLACE
We chose an UPS truck to represent vesicles because UPS trucks deliver things everywhere and divide them up by different regions, just like vesicles in a cell.

MITOCHONDRIA

SUPPLIES ENERGY TO THE CELL
We chose solar panels to represent mitochondria because solar panels get energy from the sun and supply it to the house or building, etc. The mitochondria supplies energy for the cell.

VACUOLE

STORES ENERGY AND MATERIALS
We chose a safe to represent a vacuole because safes hold and store things just like the vacuole in a cell stores energy and materials.

LYSOSOMES

DIGEST, RECYLE, AND PROTECT FROM VIRSUS
We chose the military to represent a lysosomes because the military protects us from the foreign invaders, just like lysosomes protect the cell from viruses.

CENTRIOLES

HELPS THE CELL DIVIDE INTO TWO
We chose a railroad splitting into two because it does the same as a centrioles as it helps the cell split into two.

CELL WALL

PROVIDES PROTECTION AND SHAPE FOR CELL
We chose a jail cell to represent a cell wall because a jail cell gives a shape of a box cell and protects the prisoner from other inmates, just like a cell wall protects from other things outside the cell.

CHLOROPLAST

ORGANELLES THAT CARRY OUT PHOTOSYNTHESIS, CAPTURE AND COVERT ENERGY
We chose a garden to represent chloroplast because a garden has plants in it that have chloroplast in them and carry out photosynthesis.
