WHAT IS S.A.D.

  • Separation anxiety disorder is a condition in which a child becomes fearful and nervous when away from home or separated from a loved one usually a parent or other caregiver to whom the child is attached.

SYMPTOMS

  • clinging to parents.
  • extreme and severe crying.
  • refusal to do things that require separation
  • physical illness, such as headaches or vomiting.
  • violent, emotional temper tantrums
  • refusal to go to school

Causes of S.A.D
Separation anxiety Disorder often develops after a significant stressful or traumatic event in the child's life, such as a stay in the hospital, the death of a loved one or pet, or a change in environment

Treatments or recovery options
Family therapy may sometimes be appropriate to tease out the family issues that may be contributing to the child’s anxiety. For younger children who have more difficulty in identifying their thoughts, a form of play therapy may be used.
